When the pediatrician came in to check out Braydon she heard a heart murmur. Newborns have two valves, the PFO and PDA, that are open when in utero. They are supposed to close shortly after birth. When Dr. Garcia checked him out his were still pretty obvious. To make sure it wasn't anything more serious she ordered an echocardiogram. While we were very optimistic everything would be okay, we were guarded because we didn't want things to end up as they did with Cameron - with a stay in the NICU. We discussed what happened with Cameron and his stay in the NICU with Dr. Garcia. During our stay she continued to check on us and to check on the results of the test.Braydon did a fabulous job during the test, not moving at all. It made the test go by really quickly. After the test, the technician told me that she thought it looked pretty good. Of course she couldn't tell me anything officially but often the one's performing the test know almost as much as the cardiologist reading the test.
On Friday Dr. Garcia dropped by and told me that preliminarily, after talking to the technician, it looked as if the murmur was there but it was the PFO and PDA that should close soon. This was such a relief! Provided the cardiologist confirmed those results Braydon would be going home with us.
On Saturday before we were set to head home Dr Garcia came in and confirmed what she had said the day before. Braydon got the all clear to go home and have the echo repeated in 1 month to double check things.
