When the freezer runneth over ~ 9-12-10

A friend I work with had a surplus when nursing her 2nd son and decided to donate her excess milk. She donated over 5,000 ounces to a milk bank. I remember thinking how awesome that would be, but there is now way I could do that because with Cameron I barely had enough to feed him.

Fast-forward to Braydon...Two weeks after he was born he was loosing too much weight so I started expressing and giving him milk in a bottle. To help get my supply up so I didn't have to supplement with formula I took a supplement called Fenegreek. Let's just say combined with the supplement and my body knowing I just gave birth to a 9 lb 3 oz baby my supply soared. I quickly got up to about 50 oz a day and Braydon was taking about 32 oz. Huge surplus!

I found a wonderful community on Milk Bank and soon found 2 mom's that were happy to take our excess milk. The first mom was adopting a baby girl from Austin and would drop by to pick it up when the baby was born. Unfortunately a few weeks before the baby was to be born the birth mom changed her mind.

During that time I met another mom who has a little boy a month older than Braydon. His name is Henry. When the first mom didn't need the milk I got in touch with Henry's mom and on a Sunday morning the entire family drove up to meet us and to pick up milk.

It was great meeting them and becoming Henry's "Milk Mom." The first round of milk they picked up 791 oz.
